John Ward, the “Voice of the Vols”, calls one of the most famous plays in Tennessee football history. Jeff Powell’s 60-yard touchdown sprint versus the Miami Hurricanes in the 1986 Sugar Bowl is forever entrenched int he Vol football lore. The underdog Vols thrashed the No. 2 ranked Hurricanes 35-7 in front of approximately 50,000 UT fans at the Superdome in New Orleans. Tennessee shut down Jimmy Johnson’s high scoring offense and sacked Miami’s All- American quaterback Vinnie Testeverde seven times for minus- 84 yards.
